The Alkantara Festival 2024 is bringing together a diverse range of artists from around the world to explore themes of life, death, and human connection. From November 15th to December 1st, Lisbon will be filled with dance, theater, and performance art.

The festival kicks off with a powerful statement: Carolina Bianchi’s “A Noiva e o Boa Noite Cinderela” confronts the dark reality of sexual violence and femicide. Other highlights include Tiziano Cruz’s “Wayqeycuna,” a tribute to the dead and those facing adversity, and Émilie Monnet and Waira Nina’s “Nigamon/Tunai,” a celebration of indigenous cultures and environmental concerns.

For a more experimental experience, check out Dana Michel’s “MIKE,” a humorous and absurd look at work life, or Mohamed El Khatib’s “The Secret Life of Old Men,” a nostalgic and funny exploration of aging.

The festival also delves into social and political issues. Alia Hamdan’s “The body is here, off-screen” explores the impact of the Beirut port explosion, while Zaraa’s “Dear Laila” examines themes of exile and belonging.

Beyond the performances, Alkantara Festival 2024 offers workshops, screenings, and discussions. It’s a chance to connect with artists and other audience members and to dive deeper into the themes of the festival.
