La Fábrica presents “NIKE. Design in Motion” in Madrid, an exhibition that traces six decades of the brand’s history. Following a successful showing at the Vitra Design Museum in Germany, the exhibition is now hosted at TeamLabs/ in the heart of the city.

The display features more than 175 objects, including original sneakers, prototypes, and historical pieces. It begins with Nike’s origins, showcasing Bill Bowerman’s early experiments with a waffle iron to create a new shoe sole. It then moves through major innovations like the Nike Air system and the Air Jordan, culminating in recent prototypes developed with artificial intelligence for athletes like Kylian Mbappé.

Beyond technology, the exhibition explores Nike’s cultural impact. It includes personal items such as Andre Agassi’s cap, Rafa Nadal’s kit, and designs for Serena Williams. These pieces highlight the link between athletic design and individual expression. The exhibition also covers the brand’s influence on women’s sports and its collaborations with fashion houses and musicians.

A final section is dedicated to sustainability, highlighting projects like the Move to Zero program and the Space Hippie line, which focus on recycled materials and a circular economy.

TeamLabs/ was chosen as the venue because it shares Nike’s focus on innovation and experiential learning. As Pina de Paz, director of TeamLabs/ Madrid, notes, the exhibition reflects a shared spirit of prototyping and perseverance. The show offers a comprehensive look at how a simple prototype can evolve to change sport and culture.
