TATRAS presents a new project titled “Layers of Japanese Craft.” It is a limited-edition capsule collection created with the traditional lacquer artisans of Wajima city. The project explores how heritage and the present can connect.

The central idea is the visual effect of layered lacquer, a technique known as “Bokashi-nuri.” This method creates soft color gradations and a deep, shifting surface. TATRAS has translated this aesthetic from lacquerware into clothing and accessories. The subtle color transitions appear on functional items like a down jacket, down pants, a bag, and sunglasses.

Simultaneously, lacquer artist Kohei Kirimoto has created new works using the same layered color concept. These pieces will be displayed at the TATRAS flagship store in Ginza. The parallel creations by the brand and the artist form a unified world.

The art direction for the project is led by YOSHIROTTEN, an artist known for visualizing concepts of light and layers. His involvement strengthens the theme of reconstructing tradition for a modern context.
