Demna Takes the Helm at Gucci
by Adriano Batista
Demna, who has led Balenciaga as Artistic Director since 2015, will take on the same role at Gucci starting in early July 2025. This announcement from Kering and Gucci marks a new phase for the brand, as it looks to refresh its creative direction and maintain its position in the ever-changing world of fashion.

At Balenciaga, (like it or not) Demna has made a significant impact over the past decade, reshaping modern luxury with his distinct approach and understanding of contemporary culture. His ability to balance a brand’s heritage with a modern perspective has earned him widespread recognition. Now, Gucci is turning to him to bring his vision and experience to their team.
François-Henri Pinault, Chairman and CEO of Kering, expressed confidence in Demna’s abilities, stating, “Demna’s creative power is exactly what Gucci needs.” Pinault acknowledged Demna’s contributions to Balenciaga and the broader fashion industry, while looking forward to what he will achieve at Gucci.
Francesca Bellettini, Kering’s Deputy General Manager in charge of Brand Development, emphasized Demna’s understanding of today’s culture and his experience in creating forward-thinking projects. “His appointment is the perfect catalyst to reignite Gucci’s creative energy,” she said. Bellettini also highlighted the potential of the collaboration between Demna and Gucci’s CEO, Stefano Cantino, as they work together to guide the brand into a new phase.
Cantino himself has long appreciated Demna’s work. “I’ve always admired his creative approach—it’s unique and powerful,” he said. Cantino believes Demna’s ability to honor a brand’s legacy while bringing a modern sensibility will be key to Gucci’s future. With the brand’s foundations already strong, Cantino sees Demna as the right person to lead Gucci forward.
For Demna, joining Gucci is a meaningful opportunity. “It’s an honor to contribute to a House I deeply respect and have long admired,” he said. He looks forward to working with Cantino and the Gucci team to write a new chapter in the brand’s story.
The next phase for Gucci is about to unfold, and it promises to be an interesting journey.
