French-Guadeloupean producer GR-MINAL has released his debut single “Korrupt,” a poignant reflection on a society entrenched in vice, where the soul’s corruption by money has become the norm, overshadowing the reign of love, which can be tortuous at times. The single is accompanied by a music video directed by Ismaïl Alaoui Fdili.
GR-MINAL, a self-proclaimed geek, has made music software his playground. Immersed in music since childhood, he blends classical and ragga dancehall influences. His musical upbringing was rich, with a pianist and violinist mother, and two musician uncles—one a reggae artist, the other a jazz musician. At home, Daddy Mory, Lord Kossity, and the dub sounds of Lee Scratch Perry were constantly playing, embedding music deep into his veins.
Drawing from Caribbean sounds, GR-MINAL presents a contemporary, hypnotic, and languorous post-club music that intensifies with each track. His music creates a space where the temperature rises, leading to physical phenomena that listeners can fully experience: “Initially, I called my music ‘watt’ because it’s pure energy. It’s a music that is meant to be lived live.” GR-MINAL’s frenetic ragga dancehall offers an entry point to celebrate life and humanity in a chaotic world. With a flow reminiscent of Doc Gynéco, his dub music is tinged with trip-hop influences. For GR-MINAL, it’s all about joy and sensuality.
