It’s Time To Bask In Your Emotions With Newcomer Eugenio Lambri
by Chidozie Obasi
We’ve all been guilty of revisiting a must-not-think-about-option in our lives and falling into the bad habit of picking a career path just for the sake of it. Here, capturing all the good and bad of these situationships (excuse my lingo) is model Eugenio Lambri. “I have always considered [fashion] as an added value to my life, so I have always lived the fashion industry with tranquillity,” he says. “I’ve always kind of wanted to take on this path. When I was a teenager, I played baseball and my coach jokingly said I was too tall and too thin, I looked more like a model than a baseball player, so I accepted the challenge and came to Milan to start my life anew.” Staying true to his self and identity, the model honed in on his ability to convey emotions and keeping it real while growing up. Speaking on the meaning behind social media, a key player in a model’s career, the talent said, “I think it’s a world very far from reality, but people don’t always realize that it’s very different and find it difficult to act accordingly. In general, I don’t like wasting too much time on social media per se, the only one I use and watch is Instagram because I feel updated and connected to what I’m interested in and to my friends.” Indeed, the digital landscape has proven to be a far-flung role model for real life. “I think that social media affect you because you are confronted with an unreal world that makes you perceive a distorted reality,” he reflects, “you start making comparisons and feeling inadequate and often you do not understand how much that world is artificial.” Studies in The New York Times also argue that the issues come as an “underlying problem that causes some young people to feel vulnerable while on social media.” Lambri has continued to go from strength to strength, appearing in luxury catwalks, editorial shoots, and digging his path in the fashion industry. On that note, I sense his sheer emotions the moment I ask about the greatest lessons he’s learned in the system. “To be very patient, tenacious, and fully committed to what I am doing but to be able to accept that I am not in control of every single aspect of my life.” When our conversation draws to a close, he leaves a brilliant piece of advice to the young wave of models who, just like him, dream of a sweet spot in fashion: “Do not worry too much if a job doesn’t turn out as expected, because sometimes that doesn’t depend on us, and enjoy when you are chosen for something good. But I haven’t been doing this job for that long, so perhaps I’m the one who needs the advice.”
