The World Is Your Oyster Fall/Winter 2016 Lookbook
by Adriano Batista

The Fall/Winter 2016 collection of The World Is Your Oyster draws inspiration from the youth subculture in Britain that had been derived during the 70s-80s decade. The subculture is characterized by anti-establishment views, as well as promoting individual freedom in which it is similar to what have been happening in their own city recently. Where the youngsters have gradually develop their own perspective and the traditional mindset no longer fits for the new generation. It shows the creativity of this generation eager not to conform to capitalism, collusion and all sorts of social issues. They dare to voice out their opinions even with their limited power. Instead of living in the “MAINSTREAM”, they would rather be true to themselves like the flower that grows beautifully in the dustbin.
Throughout the whole collection, slogans and statements in both embroidery and prints like SAY NO TO YES and Don’t Be Told What You Want, have been used to voice out the key messages. Cross-out patches are used as a key detail. The choice of dark tone colors as main colors is to create a rather gloomy and depressing atmosphere. Yet with small details in highlighting colors; such as the use of red thread stitches helps to highlight the collection. The fabric selection mainly comes from Italy, France and Japan.
