Situationist showed a Spring(Summer 2019 collection making their Paris Fashion Week off calendar debut marking the second designer from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tbilisi, George Keburia, to show in Paris this season.
Set in an underground parking lot, the location gave way to experience the technique of “Dérive” the rapid passage through varied ambiances of the city, practiced by the group of political and artistic social rebels of the mid-20th century – Situationists.
“In a dérive, one or more persons during a certain period drop their relations, their work, and leisure activities, and all their other usual motives for movement and action, and let themselves be drawn by the attractions of the terrain and the encounters they find there.” (Debord, 1958, p2) Therefore, spontaneous dérivers are welcome to attend the presentation.
With monochromatic looks, sophisticated forms, quirky tailoring, elemental colors and strong shoulders, the collection traces a history of Georgian fashion from early 12th century to modern-day Georgia.
“Every traditional costume reflects regions history, identity and the way of life. They transcend culture, time and geography. However, fashion is changing and evolving according to needs and values of time. In the last five years, Georgian youth has experienced a dramatic change in beliefs, morals, and lifestyles. In this collection, I wanted to explore links between collective, historic identity and character of individual, modern-day Georgian and how it can be reflected in fashion.“ Explained creative director Irakli Rusadze.
