For Pre-Spring 2020, Louis Vuitton men’s artistic director Virgil Abloh refines his ongoing study of the raison d’être of a pre-collection. More than any other component in fashion, a brand’s intermediary line reflects the habitual everyday wardrobe of the contemporary global dresser: staples, named so for their necessity and familiarity. To the new generations, such essentials are innately embedded in the sector of fashion popularly identified as ‘streetwear’. Yet in a post-millennial climate breaking with the dress codes of the old world, streetwear now freely assumes the properties of all timeless and trendless wardrobes, from the formal to the sporty. It transcends the street and elevates itself to a universal level of lifewear: clothes forever chic.
