Inspired by the oil spill off the coast of Vancouver in April 2015 and echoed by the shocking discovery of thousands of dead squid off the coast of Chile in January 2016, Andrew Coimbra began thinking about the different forms of marine pollution – rubbish and oil, as examples – and researching natural forms of defense for marine wildlife including squid ink, in efforts of juxtaposing the two themes.

High-lighting how common oil spills have become – the most recent being July 2016 in Saskatchewan – this collection explores how nonchalant Western Culture is, and is a combination of his current aesthetic and bringing attention to a topic that needs to be put in the spotlight.
