SUNNEI Spring/Summer 2026
by Gabriel Córdoba Acosta
On a rainy Friday afternoon in Milan, as Fashion Week unfolded with its familiar rhythm, SUNNEI once again proved that its vision operates on a different plane. Under the creative direction of Loris Messina and Simone Rizzo, the house unveiled its Spring/Summer 2026 collection through an unexpected format: a mock auction in collaboration with Christie’s, transformed into a performance where fashion, art, and desire collided.
Inside the room, 150 guests witnessed an extraordinary spectacle. Two lots were presented: a sculpture bearing the brand’s name and, in a playful twist, the designers themselves. The bidders, embodied by models wearing the new looks, staged a theatrical choreography that blurred the boundaries between authenticity and illusion. Nothing was truly for sale, yet everything appeared to be. The charged atmosphere served as a mirror of the industry itself: a system where value is negotiated not only in monetary terms, but also through longing and emotion.
The collection, seamlessly integrated into this conceptual framework, encapsulated Sunnei’s essence. Purist minimalism, sharp tailoring, and architectural silhouettes designed for a cosmopolitan community immersed in art and design. The menswear offering stood out with supple leather pieces, experimental trousers with wing-like shapes reminiscent of bats, and footwear defined by rounded toes that injected contemporaneity while retaining distinction. Glasses —both nerdy and alluring— sealed the imagery with a balance of intellect and seduction. A palette dominated by dark tones was punctuated with flashes of blue in multiple shades and precise touches of green, bringing vibrancy to the line-up.
What seemed at first to be another chapter in the Sunnei narrative soon revealed itself, an hour later, as its conclusion. Messina and Rizzo announced their departure from the label, leaving behind a profound void in Italian fashion. Their tenure was not only about aesthetics, but also about redefining the very notion of a show, transforming collections into immersive experiences —bold cultural statements that challenged conventions.
More than a playful nod to the entanglement of creativity and commerce, the mock auction became the duo’s ultimate gesture. SUNNEI SS26 will remain as an epilogue: a moment of maturity, clarity, and intensity that consecrates Loris and Simone as two of the most original disruptors of contemporary fashion.
