SANKUANZ Fall/Winter 2025
by Adriano Batista
SANKUANZ’s Fall/Winter 2025 collection, titled “Chöd – Laughter of the Dakinis,” is the seventh chapter in the brand’s exploration of the spiritual and cultural traditions of the Himalayas. The collection draws inspiration from Chöd, an ancient Tibetan meditative practice. In this practice, practitioners go to remote places at night, using a bone trumpet and hand drum to chant mantras and meditate. The goal is to let go of attachment to the physical self and embrace selflessness. This season, SANKUANZ takes these spiritual ideas and turns them into physical designs, continuing its focus on blending tradition with modernity, and high fashion with streetwear.
The collection reinterprets traditional Himalayan clothing in a modern way. For example, the flowing shape of the Tibetan robe is transformed into oversized, seamless coats with a relaxed fit and subtle details. The robe’s drapery is reimagined as a fold that creates a discreet kangaroo pocket on the front of outerwear. Tailored jackets keep their asymmetrical wrap design, balancing heritage and practicality. These ideas are applied to suits, denim jackets, coats, and shirts. The collection uses fabrics like yak wool and silk, which are typical of the Himalayas, but they are adapted into modern pieces like denim streetwear and velvet eveningwear. This mix of traditional materials and contemporary styles shows the brand’s ability to merge cultural authenticity with modern versatility.
