NOSOMNIA presents: “Every Piece Matters”
by Adriano Batista

“Every Piece Matters” was created with the purpose of showcasing how the smallest of elements can add a unique feature to the entity, and hereby become the foundation of coherence. NOSOMNIA‘s greatest source of inspiration takes place in the world of electronics in particular the printed circuit board – a tool used in most electronic devices today.
Made of various different materials and components, all with their own unique quality, a printed circuit board is a great example of a system, where every element adds something of value to the entity. Equally to a printed circuit board the collection is constructed in layers.
The 1st layer consists of t-shirts, polos, trousers, shirts and crewnecks – all inspired by different electronic components. The inspiration is present in the use of vibrant colours, as well as in detailed embroideries, imitating wiring and electronic connections.
The 2nd layer is a composition of jackets, which are heavily influenced by the casing of electronic apparatus, such as smart-phones and computer-keyboards. The jackets are designed to work as an encapsulating shell, intending to cover the exposed components – in this case pieces from the 1st layer.
The 3rd layer holds a set of plastic rainwear inspired by conformal outerwear. Made of a thin polymeric film, conformal coating is used as a protection of the circuit board’s elements from moisture and dust. The rainwear is designed to perform a task, which is to shield underlying garments, protecting them from damage.
In this collection, like in a printed circuit board, every single component has a purpose. It has a unique quality. Removing a component will hence compromise the objective of the collection, jeopardizing its functionality. In other words, every piece matters
