Nike and Paulin, Paulin, Paulin bring immersive installation SOUND.TRACK.SPACE to Paris
by Anna Barr
Nike has brought several high-profile activations to Paris for the Olympic Games encompassing all sports including “Art of Victory” at Centre Pompidou. Just a stone’s throw at the Brancusi Atelier, they bring us a unique celebration of running culture stemming from a collaboration between Nike and Paulin, Paulin, Paulin, the family of renowned interior designer Pierre Paulin who develops and preserve his works which continue to be forward-thinking and innovative.

Earlier in the installation, Benjamin Paulin, the son of Pierre Paulin explained to us that his father would create stretchy, knitted textiles to upholster like a sock for maximum comfort, this was revolutionary in the design world. Paulin, Paulin, Paulin filled up a large room in the atelier with an ensemble of dune sofas in Nike orange, however, these aren’t any design piece, they have been fitted with the sound system inside coming out of the upholstery for an immersive experience. The sound was specifically recorded in a way so you can hear the sound move around you.
Different iterations of the design-focused installation are offered to a selection of international running crews, along with creatives and artists, serving as a backdrop for a wide range of cultural activities, highlighting the dramatic juxtapositions between running and music. In the Zone has five motivational visualization sessions for runners, conducted by a moderator and Nike athletes Mo Farah, Caster Semenya, and Colin Kaepernick. During these sessions, these icons will share critical professional events in which music played an important role in their mental training. These workshops are also open to the Parisian and international running communities in Nike’s ecosystem.
Meanwhile, at Sound x Track, music producers (Twinsmatic and Kiala Ogawa) will perform two live sets employing runners as sound sources. The sounds of footsteps, breathing, and heartbeats will serve as the foundation for a one-of-a-kind running soundtrack, constructed in tandem with the runners’ performances for an hour-long immersive audio experience. While, Live from Paris offers intimate and live acoustic sets, as well as DJ sets that complement the flowing images of running.
