Nicholas Daley Spring/Summer 2025
by Gabriel Córdoba Acosta
Nicholas Daley, British menswear designer known for exploring the interplay between fashion, music and culture through his collections, has waited until the end of the fashion weeks of London, Milan, and Paris to present his new work, “Sacred Drums”, related to Rastafarian consciousness and devotional drumming.
The format in which the designer has presented the line has been a lookbook and in it the 19 looks that compose it have been seen, where the style of London and Jamaica is fused perfectly. This mix of influences is recognisable as soon as one takes a look at the portfolio, partly due to the colour palette used to dye the clothes and the prints inspired by the vibrant paintings of Frank Bowling, an artist born in Guyana.
Several garments stand out from the proposal, namely the SLYGO jumper, representative of the intersection of personal and shared histories; the square-cut field shirt with soft open collar and oversized flap pockets, which reinterprets an army classic referencing the subverted military wear popular in Jamaica in the 1960s and 70s; or another relaxed-fit hooded jumper in the collection’s sonic jacquard, paired with pleated wide-leg trousers with knife pleats and double-button fastening. All of the above items stand out for having been made with top-quality fabrics and techniques.
Footwear that accompanies the looks is from Clarks Originals and nods to the brand’s historical links with Jamaica through the Wallabee, reinvented with ND brand codes. As for the accessories, responsible for adding depth to the range, they come with two aims, to protect the wearer from the sun’s rays with scarves, corduroy caps, bucket hats, berets, or the iconic “Rebel Hat”; or to safeguard one’s belongings in the roomy, custom woven tote bags.
