Decoding the boundaries between garments isn’t usually a task for detectives. You can usually tell when a sweatshirt’s cuff peeks out from under a trenchcoat sleeve that they’re cleverly layered to combat the cold. But for FW23, MM6 Maison Margiela challenges those assumptions by presenting familiar clothing in entirely new ways.
It’s a game of surfaces and perception, where outfits are built like a collaborative artwork. They skillfully combine unexpected fabric textures and treatments, cleverly mixing and matching to disrupt our preconceived notions of what goes together. Meanwhile, unconventional styling choices are achieved through clever construction techniques.
