Magnus Carlsen is the face of G-STAR’s Fall 2025 denim collection. This is their third collaboration, a partnership that works because of a common perspective: a shared rebellious spirit.

The reunion followed the World Rapid Chess Competition, where Carlsen challenged traditions. He made headlines for refusing to change out of his jeans, choosing to leave the event instead of compromising on his principles. This was more than a preference for denim; it was a stand that led the commission to change its dress code. That act, “denim or nothing,” made coming back to G-STAR a natural next step.

Shot by Dutch photographer Paul Kooiker, the campaign shows Carlsen in pieces from the new line. He wears a structured jacket and straight jeans made from selvedge denim. The designs reflect a philosophy of moving past established limits, inspired by the grandmaster’s own approach.

Carlsen notes, “Rules and routines are useful, but they’re also meant to be questioned. Whether it’s in chess or beyond, thinking differently opens up new possibilities. That’s something I appreciate working with G-STAR.”
