Jekeun x Young Minds
by Adriano Batista
Menswear brand Jekeun continues its advocacy for mental health awareness, partnering with charity Young Minds over Men’s Health Awareness Month with an upcycled capsule collection.
Jekeun hopes to raise funds for Young Minds through this project and highlight their vital work in ensuring young people can access the mental health support they need, when they need it, no matter what.
A supporter of circular fashion, Jekeun Cho explores the psychology of the self in his collections. Cho explains “…as our brand identity started from personal vulnerability and leads to everyone, we wanted to share our story and discuss people’s difficulties through fashion. Speaking out and sharing is the best way to ride out a storm and fashion is one of the best tools we can use to communicate this.”
The designer advocates for living openly, honestly, and as our true vulnerable selves. With 43% of men admitting to regularly feeling worried or low and over a third of men expressing that social media has a negative impact on how they feel, Jekeun aims to break down the social stigma surrounding conversations about mental health amongst men. Using fashion as a platform, he hopes to shift perceptions around the mental health conversation and allow men to break out from their armor of black clothing into pieces that encourage self-expression.
9 unique items will be listed via the verified Jekeun’s shop, including reworked tailored jackets, hand-dyed faux fur coats and patchwork polos all rescued from local charity shops.
