Inventory of Fragile Materials: A Chilean Exhibit at PhotoEspaña 2025
by Adriano Batista

Some stories exist on the margins. They are found in the textures of what is left behind, in the narratives often excluded. This September, PhotoEspaña 2025 brings two such stories to Madrid. For the first time, the festival has a guest of honor: Chile. To mark the occasion, the Spolia Haus space will host “Inventory of Fragile Materials,” a joint exhibition by Chilean photographers Rocío Aguirre and Camilo Delpin.

The exhibition unites two independent projects. Both engage visually with ideas of representation, identity, and consumption. They take what neoliberal logic often discards (waste, residual materials) and transform them into a powerful aesthetic discourse. These works challenge the viewer to see the poetic potential in the fragile and the overlooked.

The artists bring significant experience to this presentation. Camilo Delpin is a Chilean architecture graduate and photographer based in Madrid. His work has been published in L’Officiel and he has participated in art biennials. He has collaborated with brands like Chanel and Givenchy for editorial projects and has photographed cultural figures including Angela Davis and Nicanor Parra.

Rocío Aguirre is also a Chilean photographer living in Madrid. Her work has appeared in Vogue, and she has collaborated with brands such as JACQUEMUS. Named by Forbes among the “50 Latinas to Watch,” this is her third time presenting work at PhotoEspaña.

In this edition of the festival, which celebrates photography as a tool for memory, critique, and transformation, they share the stage with icons like Joel Meyerowitz and Graciela Iturbide.
The exhibition opens on September 1st at 11:00 AM at Spolia Haus in central Madrid. Admission is free. Representatives from the Chilean Embassy and Fundación Chile España, along with prominent local artists, will attend the opening. The show will remain open until September 14th.
