Calvin Blackburn is a menswear designer who has just recently graduated from Edinburgh College of Art’s prestigious fashion design programme.

As a Scottish-born designer, his work is deeply inspired by his Celtic origins; with thoughtfully layered garments that evoke a sense of spirituality in comfort. Calvin is influenced by global and historic culture, examining the ways in which sartorial tradition can be harmoniously combined with folkloric antiquity to conjure a poetic vision of effortless simplicity.

Calvin’s graduate collection, titled ‘The Dreaming’ draws inspiration from his “love of storytelling; where I curated my own fictional universe for my garments to exist within. A utopian world with its own characters, mythology and landscape. The silhouettes draw upon a myriad of inspirations, such as the historical inaccuracies of fantasy costume combined with nomadic dress codes found across multiple cultural origins. Each garment was mindfully created to provide feelings of comfort and freedom in the wearer, opting to remove as many seams as possible to propose an experience of softness that works from within. In addition to this, my signature design ethos has led to various high-profile collaborations alongside luxury heritage brands, such as Harris Tweed and Johnston’s of Elgin cashmere, of which their fabrics were generously donated for use within my debut collection.”
