With his new collection named ‘Pioneer’, Israeli designer Or Yair Bitton takes us on a sartorial -and symbolic- journey inspired by the kibbutz, fusing utility garments and tailoring with the idea of community. Self-sufficiency, independence and agriculture defined Degania, the very first kibbutz created in 1909. Individuals empowered and bettered themselves in the kibbutz, serving the whole community through their respective work. Removed from the constraints and rules of traditional society, the kibbutz is a place of pragmatic utopia, combining personal aspirations and group dynamics with the resourcefulness of nature.
