Intimate and sincere, Creative Director Alessandro Michele shared with the Gucci Community some pages from his personal diary written in his Roman home during the past few months and he announces a new beginning for the brand. From now on Gucci will only show twice a year.

I will abandon the worn-out ritual of seasonalities and shows to regain a new cadence, closer to my expressive call,” said designer Alessandro Michele. “We will meet just twice a year to share the chapters of a new story. Irregular, joyful, and absolutely free chapters, which will be written blending rules and genres, feeding on new spaces, linguistic codes, and communication platforms.”

It’s hard to tell if this decision was made in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, or due to the increased pressures for more environmentally-friendly practices in the fashion industry. Either way it looks like a smart and necessary decision.

I would like to leave behind the paraphernalia of leitmotifs that colonized our prior world: cruise, pre-fall, spring-summer, fall-winter. I think these are stale and underfed words.”
