Black Lacquer: Tom Ford’s New Fragrance

Tom Ford is set to unveil his latest olfactory masterpiece, Black Lacquer, on the Summer 2025 runway. This new fragrance promises to be a bold and enigmatic statement, blending ancient artistry with modern perfumery.
At its core, Black Lacquer is an amber-woody composition that revolves around two accords. The first, a fiery black lacquer accord, captures the essence of this ancient technique, translating its smoky, dimensional opulence into scent. Enhanced by Styrax and a vinyl accord, it creates a depth and richness reminiscent of precious woods. Black pepper and black rum extract add layers of complexity, bringing to life the vibrant spirit of the fragrance.
The second star of the show is Makassar ebony wood, an exclusive creation by Tom Ford. Inspired by the architectural beauty of this rare wood, the note is meticulously crafted using headspace technology, preserving its essence without harming the environment. This innovative approach allows for a true olfactory portrait of the Makassar ebony wood, capturing its vetiver and cedarwood undertones, as well as a surprising fruity apricot facet.
A dark peony accord adds an unexpected floral touch, its green and floral facets tempered by the warm spice of elemi resin. The fragrance is then enveloped in the rich, multifaceted embrace of olibanum, a traditional incense ingredient known for its smoky balsamic warmth and aromatic woods.
