Benjamin Monein Master Collection
by Adriano Batista

Having first presented his work upon receiving his Bachelor’s degree at La Cambre Mode/s/, Benjamin Monein’s Master’s collection showcases his continued work in menswear.
Crossing a collection of hybridisations, from accessory to clothing design, it delivers a wardrobe marked by both traditional men’s tailoring and a style consciously influenced by club culture. The collection’s sombre and mysterious atmosphere is implemented by referencing the works of several sculptors, Rachel Feinstein, Robert Morris and Franz Erhard Walther, whose work on geometric surfaces and the relationship between 2D and 3D helped to develop a unifying concept for the construction of each piece in the collection.
Benjamin Monein’s design method serves a particular attitude, in a mindset that is simultaneously techno and rigorous, showy and understated, dark and sensual. The final styling, built while listening to Le Chanteur by Daniel Balavoine, the cult incarnation of the story of a cynical and arrogant idol, gives a wickedly current bitterness to the collection, Nos nuits sont plus belles que vos jours.
