Axiom Space & Prada Unveil Spacesuit Design For Moon Return
by Adriano Batista
Axiom Space and Prada have unveiled the flight design of the AxEMU spacesuit, set to be used for NASA’s Artemis III mission. The collaboration between the two industry leaders has resulted in a spacesuit design that blends creativity and engineering.

“Our elite teams have redefined spacesuit development,” said Matt Ondler, Axiom Space President. “We have broken the mold. The Axiom Space-Prada partnership has set a new foundational model for cross-industry collaboration, further expanding what’s possible in commercial space.”
The AxEMU spacesuit features a white outer layer that reflects heat and protects astronauts from extreme temperatures and lunar dust. Prada’s expertise in materials and production processes played a crucial role in developing the suit’s innovative design and features.
“Going beyond our limits is one of the company’s values that perfectly reflects the spirit of the Prada brand,” said Lorenzo Bertelli, Prada Group Chief Marketing Officer. “We’ve shared our expertise on high-performance materials, features, and sewing techniques.”

The AxEMU program exemplifies the commercial space industry’s ability to leverage non-traditional partnerships to enhance space exploration capabilities. Axiom Space has sought out renowned experts in diverse industries to aid in developing and designing this next-generation spacesuit.
“Partnerships build a strong, cohesive team, enabling industry experts to provide cutting-edge technology, specialized products and services to drive innovation,” said Russell Ralston, Executive Vice President of Extravehicular Activity at Axiom Space.
The AxEMU spacesuit is designed to provide increased flexibility, performance, and safety for astronauts exploring the lunar south pole. It accommodates a wide range of crewmembers, is highly durable, and includes advanced features such as a regenerable carbon dioxide scrubbing system and a robust cooling technology.
