Alder New York Spring/Summer 2014 Lookbook
by Adriano Batista

The Spring/Summer 2014 collection of Alder New York is inspired by the idea of the Ultimate Prepster. “He’s a man who is innately stylish without trying too hard,” says founder David J. Krause. “We were excited by the idea of collegiate athleticism and the look and feel of active wear in a preppy setting.” The designers explored the clean lines and bright colors that inform athletic wear, mixed with more casual neutrals to play on this Prepster ideal.
The result is “Beach Formal,” explains founder Nina Zilka. “It’s all about that preppy ease that comes with being born rich, spending summers at the beach house. Being stylish is effortless, and not something to spend time on.” This ease translates to a Denim Suit and twill Khaki Suit, as well as, linen and cotton blocked button front shirts. “We wanted lightweight, summery, traditionally ‘easy’ fabrics, for more classically formal pieces,” says Krause.
For a more relaxed silhouette, the duo created a taslin Plaid Board Short and matching Plaid Windbreaker, appliquéd in navy and maroon. Also in the line are three Bucket Hats, in neon-orange nylon, denim, and a linen stripe, to simply finish a look.
Playing further on the collegiate athleticism from which prep was born, the team created three Boxing Shorts, one in suede, one in denim, and one in linen, emblazoned with the name “ANY,” for Alder New York. The shorts can be paired with the label’s two graphic tees, in soft pink or white, both of which feature the Greek Spartan who shows up throughout this season. His face and helmet are also embroidered in neon on both a grey and pink sweatshirt, for a lux collegiate feel.
