For her first-ever trainer collaboration, London-based designer Priya Ahluwalia has partnered with PUMA to reconsider the iconic Suede. Her process began not on the drawing board, but in research, exploring photography and books about sport from the Global South. This deep dive informs a design that is both an homage and a forward-looking statement.

The resulting shoe honors the Suede’s legacy while introducing Ahluwalia’s own language. Dynamic curves and a subtle ombre gradient on the metallic-effect midsole give it a sense of movement. A palette of black and silver offers a universal appeal, while the TPU Formstrip and mudguard overlays contribute a modern, functionalist edge. Co-branding appears on the tongue and the Suede tab, marking the union. As Ahluwalia notes, the Suede has been significant to many cultures, from Hip-Hop to skateboarding, and her goal was to honor that history while exploring texture and detail to make it feel new.

This project extends beyond the product itself. The campaign focuses on the silver linings in daily life, told through character-driven short films that celebrate real people and real moments. Furthermore, Ahluwalia and PUMA have launched a mentorship initiative for filmmakers, fashion designers, and storytellers aged 18-25, offering guidance and visibility within the creative sector.
