Once again, Primavera Sound is putting Catalan artists in the spotlight. From June 2nd to 8th, the festival will highlight the region’s thriving music scene, showcasing everything from experimental pop to underground electronic beats, proving that local talent can stand tall alongside international headliners.
This year’s lineup reflects the full spectrum of Catalonia’s sound. The Barcelona-based, Pamplona-born artist, Amaia, who played her first-ever concert at Primavera, returns with her most ambitious live show yet. Meanwhile, electronic maestro John Talabot teams up with Danish DJ Justin for a highly anticipated back-to-back set. But the festival goes far beyond familiar names, it’s a platform for the impossible to categorize.
Dame Area brings their raw synth-punk energy, while Heal delivers introspective indie. Red Stamp, the new project from Núria Graham and Irish artist Aoife Nessa Frances, weaves psychedelic pop with haunting harmonies. Belén Natalí shakes up expectations with her love letter to Jamaican sounds, and Ciutat (of the Mainline collective) shifts from club bangers to a more laid-back, danceable groove.
Then there are the outliers, artists who refuse to fit neatly into any box. Sistema de Entretenimiento’s arcade-punk, Tetas Frías’ unfiltered humor, and Llum’s hyper-digital pop push limits in wildly different ways. Huir’s dark, hypnotic soundscapes and Maig’s smooth Catalan R&B add even more depth to the lineup. And La Casa Azul? Pure, infectious pop magic, a guaranteed celebration.
Primavera Pro, the festival’s professional arm, amplifies emerging voices with free, open-access showcases at the CCCB on June 4th. GUINEU blends indie pop with riot-girl edge, okdw fuses hip-hop and soul in Catalan, Remei de Ca la Fresca reimagines rock with poetic rage, and xicu twists experimental pop into something raw and cathartic. It’s a snapshot of Catalonia’s next wave, eclectic, fearless, and full of promise.
And because no Primavera experience is complete without tradition meeting innovation, Catalan Arts will host its famous botifarrada (a Catalan sausage feast) for accredited guests, while the concerts remain open to all.
