Casablanca Fall/Winter 2025
by Anna Barr
Charaf Tajer’s Fall/Winter 2025 Casablanca collection presented at Paris Fashion Week finds its footing by taking inspiration from Japan’s natural, vibrant paradoxes and dualities. Tajer drew on personal experience gained from two decades of frequent travel to the nation and close examination of its customs, traditions, and cultures—both ancient and modern. This collection, which is the second Casablanca series that was specifically inspired by this location, examines cultural exchanges and fusion from an outward gaze.
The flamboyance of rave dress, as well as the uniforms of Japanese corporate culture, are contrasted with the customized super motorcycles and embroidery of Bōsōzoku and Harajuku Kawaii. In addition, there are echoes of the beautiful landscapes of Japan’s mountains and countryside, as well as riffs and references to the country’s hypermodern cityscapes demonstrating the harmony in contrasts. Meanwhile tailoring pays homage to traditional Japanese costume with its layers and loose silhouettes against uniform workwear.
The main color scheme of mint green and black, which is used in Casablanca gradient prints as well as in clothing and accessories, originates from the Park Hyatt hotel corridors in Tokyo. Micro versions of Casablanca’s Jeanne bag and XXL travel-size duffels both represent dynamic movement and the ultimate escape. The Jeanne changes with time, with its flap clasp becoming a delicate wave that appears on other accessories. Japan’s youth, culture, identity, and way of life are all lovingly honored and appreciated throughout the collection for fall.
