After almost two months of speculation, day in and day out, about who would be John Galliano’s successor at Maison Margiela, the day has finally arrived when the fashion house has issued a press release announcing that Glenn Martens – former Creative Director of Y/PROJECT and current Creative Director of Diesel – will be the one to do it.

The news has not surprised the fashion industry, because if there was a name that sounded strongly, that was the Belgian designer graduated at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, who in turn is the perfect candidate for the position, as he understands fashion in a similar way to the Gibraltarian.

Of the appointment, Martens commented: “I am honoured to join the incredible Maison Margiela, a truly unique house that has been inspiring the world for decades. And I thank Renzo for the trust he has placed in me”.

While Stefano Rosso, Chairman of Maison Margiela, said: “Maison Margiela is at a key moment in its history and on a well-defined and solid path. Glenn’s appointment will reinforce the heritage of the house, of which we are very proud to be part of our Group”.

Maison Margiela has just begun a new era and it is sure to be as interesting or even more so than the previous one.

Congratulations Glenn Martens on this well-deserved appointment!
