Pronounce presents the FW24 collection ‘Zhuangzi’s Butterfly’
by Adriano Batista
Pronounce has unveiled its latest collection, inspired by the ancient Chinese philosopher Zhuangzi and his famous butterfly dream. The collection explores the concept of reality and illusion, and the fluidity between the two.
Zhuangzi was a prominent Taoist thinker who lived around the 4th century BC. One of his most well-known stories is about a dream he had, in which he became a butterfly, flying and enjoying himself. He did not know that he was Zhuangzi. Suddenly he woke up and found himself lying there, a human being. He wondered: “Was I Zhuangzi who dreamt I was a butterfly, or am I a butterfly who dreams I am Zhuangzi?”
This paradoxical question inspired Pronounce to create a collection that transcends the boundaries of reality, delving into the ethereal realms of Zhuangzi’s butterfly dream. The collection reflects the idea of infinite to nothingness, and nothingness to infinite, through the use of various fabrics, textures, and shapes.
The collection features knitwear, coats, and denim suits, utilizing edge fabrics of various materials and hand-cut ropes with infinite trajectories. The fabrics include lightweight double-sided alpaca, silk mohair pullovers, silk alpaca fleece, white cotton twill, and coated merino wool. An ultra-light fleece work suit in silk and alpaca adds an avant-garde touch to the ensemble.
The collection also showcases the collaboration between Pronounce and Mongolian artisans, who contribute their expertise to craft alpaca knitted hats. The hats are seamlessly integrated with the contemporary design of the collection, creating a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation.
