Choupette Lagerfeld Inspires Daring and Playful Looks at MET Gala 2023
by Adriano Batista
The Met Gala is an annual fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, where celebrities dress up in elaborate and avant-garde outfits to match the year’s theme. This year’s #METGALA2023 theme was a tribute to none other than the iconic fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld. Unfortunately, his beloved cat Choupette couldn’t make it to the event, but her spirit was still present on the red carpet.
Let’s talk about Lil Nas X‘s show-stopping tribute to Choupette. The rapper went all out, wearing nothing but a metallic Dior thong, silver body paint, and head-to-toe Swarovski crystals and pearls. To top it off, he wore a matching mask, fangs, platform boots, and a killer claw-like manicure. It took nine hours to put together, with rare materials sourced from all over the world, including couture lace from 25 years ago and crystals from Austria. Lil Nas X’s outfit was so mesmerizing that it left everyone speechless.
Not to be outdone, Doja Cat rocked a custom-made Oscar De La Renta ensemble, featuring cat ears, a feathery train, and full cat prosthetics on her face. Malina Stearns, the talented artist responsible for her feline-inspired look, nailed it.
Jared Leto also paid homage to Choupette with his larger-than-life catsuit, inspired by Lagerfeld’s famous pet. Leto is no stranger to making a statement on the Met Gala red carpet, including his unforgettable bust of his own head in 2019.
