With the smash hit “Holy” featuring Kim Petras, British musician Sam Smith became the first non-binary artist to be on the top of the US Billboard charts in 2021. Same thing for Petras who became the first transgender musician to get a number 1 song in the States. TikTok helped Smith to let them achieve this successful hit and they are about to do the same with latest single “I’m Not Here to Make Friends” featuring vocals from Canadian musician Jessie Reyez and production from Calvin Harris. Since the video of their new single came out, Smith has been getting backlash as some internet people think that the visual is “oversexualized”. Directed by Tanu Miuno and chorégraphed by (LA) Horde, we can enjoy Sam living their best lives with some amazing drag queens including La Big Bertha from France Drag Race.
Smith’s new album “Gloria” is finally out and features collaborations with Jessie Reyez, Koffee as well as Ed Sheeran with a classical and romantic ballad. Nothing exciting but it shows us the beauty of their voice and how Sam Smith is one of the best voices of our generation. This fourth album is also about being confident and a fierce statement of reshaping the pop culture in this music industry. Smith will be defending this project on a worldwide tour and all that we hope is that they will be serving us a sassy and useful performance, putting into the spotlight the queer community.
