adidas by Rick Owens Spring/Summer 2016 Collection
by Adriano Batista

For Spring/Summer 2016 the fashion-influenced sportswear of adidas by Rick Owens takes the iconic Rick Owens’ Runners as a core silhouette. As seen on the runway, two new models – the Cargo Sandal and Clog are introduced for the upcoming season, whilst the Superstar Ripple Boots range has received the iconic Rick Owens makeover.
Both styles, the Cargo Sandal and Clog, are playing with the silhouette of the Rick Owens Runner. This season Rick Owens came to adidas wanting to make an uber comfortable technical gladiator sandal with cut-outs – the Cargo Sandal. His vision: a futuristic military-infused sportswear sandal, focused on masculinity and practicality. Over padded neoprene and nylon creates a technical look on his groundbreaking vicious outsole. The Cargo Sandal comes in three different color ways – an all over green and black version as well as a version with a black upper and white base sole.
Saluting the Cargo Sandal’s comfort and gladiator sandal style, the Clog is introduced in an all black and black/white color execution. This stripped back clog also features the same material mix of neoprene and nylon with the vicious outsole of the Cargo Sandal.
Next to these two new styles, designer Rick Owens continues his journey into high-fashion sportswear with the adidas by Rick Owens Runner. A padded nylon upper with suede overlays draws inspiration from this season’s Cargo Sandal and is perched on his signature outsole. For Spring/Summer the style has been reissued in black and white for the classic leather style, and will also include orange and green in the padded nylon variations.
The Rick Owens signature stretch boot has been created on the most iconic adidas platform, Superstar and it has been given a more aggressive masculine edge with the adidas ‘Ripple’ sole. The new look Superstar Ripple Boots features the designers advanced ‘lay down’ pattern for a great fit and elegant gather at the ankle when worn. It will be available in dark dust, mustard and black, all produced in stretch suede.
Presented this June during Paris Men’s Fashion Week, the adidas by Rick Owens collection will be available from mid February 2016. Retail prices range from € 410 – € 620.
