I discovered Jan Cerny‘s work during the last edition of Fashion Live! in Bratislava and was immediately struck by the poetry of his garments. Inspired by male prostitution in early 90s Prague, the Czech graduate’s menswear looks deal with illusory dreams, shattered ideals and the loss of innocence.
His pieces are fractured and recomposed, from striking denim jackets and crisp tailored shirts to psychedelic furs and reassembled jeans. If Cerny’s clothes come across as rough at first, they are in fact intricate and combine contrasting materials in rather surprising ways.
Basmatee in Prague will soon stock an exclusive capsule of his designs, starting on the 12th of November. Jan walked away with the Best Young Designer prize in Bratislava and produced a soulful and intimate campaign, which encapsulates his vision of menswear.
