Spain is known for late nights where appetizers don’t even make an appearance before 9pm, but can the soft clubbing trend of going out before supper translate over to the notoriously late night city of Madrid? Gen Z isn’t abandoning nightlife, just making the late arrivals earlier ones. YSL Beauty tapped into exactly that with its first-ever Block Party in Madrid, taking over the historic Café Comercial and reworking the idea of what a party can look like.

The city itself feels like a fitting backdrop; Madrid right now is less of a well-kept secret and more of a full-blown cultural hub of cool. YSL didn’t just land here by accident. The guys making up the crowd know the house codes; many were already loyal to YSL through its iconic fragrances. It was just over fifty years ago that Yves Saint Laurent introduced two new scents: Pour Homme for men and Rive Gauche for women, but Pour Homme caused a stir when Saint Laurent chose to appear nude for Jeanloup Sieff’s promotional photo. Yves Saint Laurent has never shied from being bold.

DJs Carlita, Ismaelo, and Camporeale kept things moving while familiar faces like Lennon and Gene Gallagher joined in with Villanelle bandmates, the group has been ushering in a new era of rock. There was also a product moment, naturally. The launch of YSL LOVENUDE alongside sugary churros added a layer of performance to the afternoon, with Global Makeup Artist Sam Visser bringing it into the space. If anything, it spoke to a broader shift in how men engage with beauty now, less rigid, more curious, and definitely more present.

Madrid is just the first stop, with New York and London next, but starting here says a lot. This is a city that’s increasingly dictating the pace of culture in Europe, and YSL, as always, isn’t interested in throwing a party for the sake of it. It’s about catching a moment mid-shift and making it feel definitive.
