Back in March, we celebrated the first YSL Beauty Block Party in Madrid before the party continued in Mexico, Kuala Lumpur, Indonesia and the center community-led Pétanque experience in Marseille at La Boule Des Vents. We can now say the YSL Block Party is becoming the party of the year, cementing themselves into the culture of each location, and it just hit the iconic summer hot spot Ibiza celebrating the Libre Berry Crush at La Placita in the heart of the city’s old quarter.
Blending music, daytime partying and beauty into one immersive celebration, the party captured everything that makes Ibiza the spiritual home of summer escapism along with high-energy while YSL Beauty’s summer scents felt perfectly at home proving that fragrance can be just as expressive as fashion or music. The eclectic lineup made up of Liana SGV, Desiree, Bambounou, Angie Beer and Pacome Pegaz kept the atmosphere moving through sunset. Guests reflected YSL Beauty’s continued connection to fashion, music and film. Among those were actor and musician Arón Piper, actress Carla Díaz, international fashion figure and DJ Sita Abellán, Spanish trap star La Zowi and singer-songwriter Natalia Lacunza, bringing together a cross-section of creatives.
We caught up with YSL Beauty‘s Spanish Ambassador Aron Piper, who is no stranger to our readers, we spoke to Aron last fall about dreams and music when he fronted our Issue 27 cover. Now we get to pick his brain on everyone to packing, building a summer wardrobe, and yes, beauty!
Last time we spoke, the subject was “Dreams” and now here we are celebrating YSL Beauty! As a YSL Beauty ambassador, what first drew you to the brand?
I think it was the attitude and the freedom behind the brand. There’s this idea of being yourself without having to define it too much, and I connect with that. YSL has always had this rebellious side, but it’s still elegant. I like that contrast.
“Scent-maxxing” and “scent-stacking” are huge conversations right now. Have you embraced either trend, or are you loyal to one signature scent?
I’m more of a signature scent person. I like the idea of a fragrance becoming part of you, something people associate with you. For me, that’s MYSLF. Of course, scent can change with your mood or where you are, but I always come back to it.
Fragrance is closely linked to memory and emotion. Has there ever been a scent that instantly transported you back to a particular film set or moment in your career?
Definitely. Smell is probably one of the strongest ways to bring back a memory. Sometimes it’s not even a perfume, it can be the smell of a place, a hotel, a city… There are certain smells that immediately take me back to being on set when I was younger. It’s strange because you remember the feeling before you even remember the exact moment.
Are there particular fragrance notes you’re always drawn to?
Floral notes, definitely. I like something fresh and clean, but with some depth to it. The contrast between something floral and something deeper or woody is probably what I’m drawn to.
Let’s talk Ibiza! Last month you were in Paris for the Saint Laurent show and now obviously in Ibiza, two very different places. Is there one unexpected item that’s always in your suitcase?
Probably a book. I always take one with me, even if I don’t always end up reading it.
I would love to follow up with a reading summer list! What are the first three things you pack for a trip to Ibiza?
Sunglasses, swim shorts and something for the night. In Ibiza you never really know where you’re going to end up.
How would you describe your summer wardrobe in three words?
Simple, loose, comfortable.
Ibiza has such a legendary nightlife and music culture. Do you think Gen Z approaches nightlife differently from previous generations?
Yeah, probably. Everything is more visible now. People are filming, posting and sharing where they are all the time. Maybe before there was more mystery around nightlife. But I think people still go out for the same reason: to disconnect, listen to music and be with people. That part doesn’t really change.
What made you want to be part of the YSL Beauty Block Party in Ibiza?
I think Ibiza is the perfect place for something like this. It has a very particular energy and YSL knows how to create its own world around an event. I was curious to experience that here.
Are you someone who prefers a huge party, a small gathering with friends, or a quiet night at home?
It depends. I can enjoy a huge party, but usually I prefer being with a smaller group of people I’m close to. And sometimes staying home is the best plan. I need both.
Do you have a getting-ready ritual before heading out?
Not really. I’m pretty spontaneous with it. Shower, get dressed and go. I don’t like to overthink it.
I’ve been scent-stacking before I knew there was a word for it, I can’t head out with it. Do you have a playlist or artist that instantly gets you into party mode?
It changes all the time. Recently I’ve been listening to a lot of electronic music, but it really depends on where I am and who I’m with. My playlists are pretty chaotic.
If someone was visiting Ibiza for the first time, what’s one experience you’d tell them they can’t miss?
I’d tell them to leave the clubs for one night and watch the sunset somewhere quiet. Ibiza has this incredible side that people sometimes forget because they only think about partying.
Finally, between acting, singing, and being an ambassador for YSL, what are you currently most excited about creatively?
Music. I’m in a moment where I really want to explore and experiment more with it. Acting will always be a big part of my life, but music is very personal to me. Right now I’m excited about making things and seeing where they go.
