Daniel Palillo: Pre-collection S/S 2015 -Wormholes-

Like the multicolored cutouts in the new Daniel Palillo sweater, the Wormholes pre-collection consists of wormholes for traveling back in time to revisit various different eras of the renowned label.

The unisex collection celebrates some of the designer’s favorite elements from over the years – patterns, prints, and structures – bringing together the best of all his parallel universes at once. Palillo has conducted a series of experiments that were previously left undone. “These are the pieces that should’ve, could’ve, would’ve been made in the first place,” he states.

Wormholes may be seen to mark an end of one chapter and the beginning of the next one. It’s all in the mix.

The Miseducation of Daniel Palillo: Chapter Seventeen

Blah, blah, blah… Instead of an education, Daniel Palillo’s women’s collection for autumn/winter 2014 builds on a jam session… Shoo-be-doo-be-doo! 

The Miseducation of Daniel Palillo, Chapter Seventeen uses the tokens of high culture, such as abstract paintings, white gloves and bow ties, as its instruments while improvising a free melody.

In fact, as the finger touches the piano—like on one of the pieces in the collection—a whole new genre is born. This timeless yet distinct style can only be captured through a special skull notation. Related expressions may be practiced in front of the mirror T-shirt. 

The collection channels views from the designer’s Helsinki home. Jamming away, he has rearranged the ordinary, revisited some of his classic prints, and all that jazz.

Daniel Palillo: Men´s A/W 2014 -The Trip- 

Autumn/winter 2014 marks the launch of Daniel Palillo men’s collection. It is an epic journey to the other, darker side of the label—and although distinct from the women's collection, it's faithful to the same unisex feel that has been characteristic to the label since the beginning. Whichever, the destination is literally out of this world.

The Trip draws on tourist merchandise, the kind one finds at global market places where city t-shirts and holiday hats meet tribal esthetics or spiritual imagery and where bongs are piled up on top of oriental fabrics. Similarly, in Palillo’s collection, one can choose their patches and change them, too (everything connects with Velcro).

The collection channels views from the designer’s leisurely strolls around his home city of Helsinki, where he has been wearing a bathrobe in public to get into a liminal mode, or tuned into a metropolitan vibe by traveling back and forth on the city’s one and only metro line. Like a method actor, Palillo aspires to complete emotional identification with his designs.

Another way to travel the Daniel Palillo universe is taking a trip inside one’s mind. It is all about blurring the boundaries between fiction and non-fiction, or seeing and experiencing many parallel realities in one.

 Daniel Palillo is back with the biggest collection of his seven-year career as a designer. Paradoxically, in all its vastness, spring/summer 2014 celebrates the art of dreamy, short working days. It is a call for slackers* to unite: to wear their pajamas to work, and do what they like.

Working life, according to Palillo, should not be about what one does but about the way in which he or she does it—or what makes them do it. “You just need to find your music,” he says. Like a method actor, Palillo aspires to complete emotional identification with his designs. Right now, they channel street views from strolling around in New York.

Me Against the World attempts to generate with clothing the empowering feeling that one gets from listening to great songs. Try wearing a t-shirt that says ‘Eat my’ written on it with rainbow-colored letters or a romantic flower-patterned beret and see where this takes you. Be bold and stay cool.

*Slacker: a person who avoids work or effort; a young person (esp. in the 1990s) of a subculture characterized by apathy and aimlessness.

Daniel Palillo: Wasted Youth

Congratulations! You have been officially accepted to turn on, tune in and drop out from the University of Palilloism.

Daniel Palillo’s new collection originates in an epochal moment during the designer’s own freshman year when a group of students hijacked the school radio and blasted Beck’s “Loser” all over the corridors and classrooms. Too cool for school, the song became an anthem for Palillo. May it also inspire you, the class of autumn/winter 2013, along your way.

Remember, whatever works. Not only losers, but also rebels, nerds, goths, jocks and cheerleaders get their uniforms. In fact, Palillo dresses up the entire high school social scene as he remembers it from the nineties: hoods, zippers, fleeces, and Creepers in collaboration with UNDERGROUND shoes. A mix of worlds and power words, the ups and downs of adolescent life are shared at the University of Palilloism where the point is not to take it too seriously
