This summer, Galerie Dina Vierny showcases Grammelot, the first solo exhibition in France by Italian painter Luca Ceccherini. Bringing together a series of new works, the exhibition offers visitors an immersive journey into a poetic world where memory, imagination, and storytelling come together. Inspired by the ancient theatrical language known as “grammelot,” Ceccherini’s paintings communicate through atmosphere, gesture, and emotion rather than direct narration.

Drawing from the traditions of medieval Italian jesters and the characters of the commedia dell’arte, the artist populates his canvases with acrobats, fools, tightrope walkers, and mysterious figures. These characters feel both familiar and timeless, emerging from a collective cultural memory while remaining open to personal interpretation. Their presence creates a sense of wonder, inviting viewers to reconnect with the power of imagination and folklore.

Ceccherini’s artistic language is deeply influenced by his background in theatre. Before dedicating himself fully to painting, he trained as a performer, and this experience continues to shape his work. His figures occupy the canvas with a strong physical presence, sharing the space with landscapes inspired by the forests and countryside of his native Tuscany. Together, they create scenes that feel at once intimate and universal.

Rather than preserving the past as a distant memory, Grammelot breathes new life into forgotten stories and shared traditions. Through rich textures, expressive forms, and evocative imagery, Luca Ceccherini invites us to enter a world where meaning emerges beyond words, reminding us that art, like the language of grammelot itself, can speak directly to the human experience.
