The Best Albums of 2025 Will Play Primavera Sound 2026
by Adriano Batista
The lineup for Primavera Sound Barcelona 2026 was announced last September. It made a strong claim: that it offers a clear view of music’s future. Now, the recent wave of “best of the year” lists from major publications seems to back that up.

Many of the artists set to play the festival were at the top of those lists. This endorsement comes from critics and from the audience. Tickets for Friday and Saturday are already sold out. Thursday and full-festival passes are nearly gone.
A key name is Addison Rae. Her debut album, Addison, was named the best album of 2025 by The Fader and The Washington Post. It also appeared in the year-end top twenty lists of Pitchfork, The Guardian, NME, Rolling Stone, and others. Critics praised her blend of contemporary and nostalgic pop.
In rock, the band Geese received major praise. Their album Getting Killed was named the best of the year by Stereogum, NME, and The New Yorker. It was a top-ten album for Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and The Guardian. The band’s leader, Cameron Winter, also had Pitchfork’s song of the year, Love Takes Miles.
Other festival artists dominated song lists. Pitchfork’s top three songs included You got time and I got money by Smerz and S.M.O. by Amaarae. The French artist Oklou saw her album Choke Enough in the top ten of Pitchfork, Stereogum, and others. Her song Blade Bird was named the best of the year by The Fader. Dijon’s album Baby was a top-ten pick for Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and The New Yorker. Smerz also placed their album Big city life high on several lists.
Publications also crowned other future Primavera performers. Loud and Quiet named the latest Water From Your Eyes album the best of the year. Les Inrockuptibles did the same for Blood Orange’s Essex Honey.
These highlighted artists (Addison Rae, Geese, Oklou, Dijon, Smerz, Water From Your Eyes, and Blood Orange) are all scheduled to perform. They will be joined by other acclaimed acts like PinkPantheress, Ethel Cain, Big Thief, and Alex G. The festival will take place from June 3rd to 7th, 2026.
