Setchu Spring/Summer 2026
by Gabriel Córdoba Acosta
Milan Fashion Week has already begun, and on this occasion, it was opened by designer Satoshi Kuwata with his brand Setchu, winner of the prestigious LVMH Prize 2023.
Of Kuwata, it could be said that he is totally comfortable in Italy, since after making his debut in January’s edition of Pitti Uomo in Florence, he has now done so on the Milanese catwalks, where he has once again made it clear why he was the perfect winner of that prize at the time and the great skill he possesses in men’s fashion, especially in the tailoring part, in which he obtains an excellent mark.
“Chasing Rainbows by the hour” is the name Satoshi has given to his Spring/Summer 2026 collection, inspired by a trip to Africa, to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. Such places are often characterised by breathtaking landscapes, where rainbows always appear in one way or another. These usually appear after a storm, and such an appearance could be related to the fact that the Japanese have joined the MFW in the right time, thus adding the touch of freshness and avant-garde that it needed. The two adjectives mentioned above undoubtedly distinguish the 11 men’s looks, with innovative yet elegant silhouettes and brimming with craftsmanship – created in collaboration with LVMH Métiers d’Art, thus supporting initiatives such as the Jafuta Foundation and Batoka Creatives – which break down all sorts of stereotypes of what some still think of as menswear.
Satoshi Kuwata has arrived in the fashion industry to stay, and from what has been seen so far, he has as bright a future as any of the blazers he designs.
