Saul Nash Spring/Summer 2027
by Adriano Batista
Saul Nash took over the Milanese Gymnastics Society Forza e Coraggio, one of the city’s oldest sporting institutions, to present his SS27 collection STANCE. The setting suited the work: Nash has always moved between sportswear and tailoring, and here he explored masculinity, strength, and desire through the collision of the two.
“The collection began through researching archival imagery of sports figures and male pin-ups, examining how masculinity is constructed and performed through both clothes and gesture,” Nash said. Pieces are engineered to highlight the frame that wears them. The silhouette of a wrestling singlet, a garment with both sporting and sensual connotations, inspires a graphic that appears across compression tops. The same lines, reminiscent of a sports hall floor, run through breathable mesh knits first developed for his 2022 International Woolmark Prize-winning collection.
Varsity details surface in striped knitted panels down the back of bomber jackets and in waterproof shirts where the singlet shape is traced in perforations across the torso. Functionality guides the collection: a merino wool pinstripe jacket borrows its shape from equestrian uniforms but comes with a built-in hood. Garments reveal and conceal in equal measure. Ultra-lightweight nylon ripstop twinsets in pale yellows and rustic oranges are cut with panels of varying opacity, showing slivers of the body beneath. Nash’s nipple-exposing Henley shirts return in collegiate-inspired colourways.
Movement continues to drive the design. A floor-length rain jacket is cut like a double-breasted trench, catching the air as it strides. A suede jacket is designed with ventilation holes. Form-fitting track jackets and cycling shorts come in super-stretch mesh and Lycra. Denim is whiskered for a lived-in feel. Trousers feature darts that open on the body in motion. Nash introduces a new suit jacket with pleats and an elasticated back that nods to fencing uniforms, presented in Ponte Di Milano and drill fabrications.
The show also previewed the SLNSH Summer 2026 collection, the fifth and final chapter in his collaboration with lululemon.
