SANGUE NOVO Launches Its Open Call
by Fucking Young!

SANGUE NOVO, the platform that has been identifying new voices in Portuguese fashion for over three decades, has opened applications for its next edition with a manifesto for the first time. The text, written by jury president Miguel Flor, sets out the principles behind the competition and the kind of energy it aims to channel.
“We ignite SANGUE NOVO, demanding new ways of creating, communicating, opening possibilities and taking up space,” the manifesto begins. It calls for a fashion that listens to communities and territories, that breathes in collective memory and the transformations shaping the present. It rejects “compulsive speed, empty aesthetics, comfortable repetition, imitation, trends and algorithms,” and instead cultivates process, experimentation, imperfect techniques, and strange materials. The text closes with a clear statement: “We are SANGUE NOVO, a collective project made up of individual voices capable of imagining what does not yet exist.”
Promoted by Associação ModaLisboa in co-organisation with the Municipality of Lisboa, the competition is open to final-year students in higher education and vocational Fashion Design programmes, as well as young designers who have completed their studies within the last five years and are currently developing their projects in Portugal.
This year introduces the new ModaLisboa x IED – Istituto Europeo di Design Award, which replaces the previous postgraduate model. The prize offers access to the Fashion Trend Forecasting and Styling and Fashion Brand Management Summer Courses at IED Firenze, each lasting three weeks and supported by a €2,000 grant. The ModaLisboa x Burel Factory Award returns, offering a one-month creative residency with technical mentoring, a €1,000 grant, and the opportunity to present a collection under the winner’s own name on ModaLisboa’s WORKSTATION platform. Winners also receive showroom representation and press office services through Showpress. Throughout the competition, participants have access to materials from Calvelex/Fabrics4Fashion, RDD Textiles, and Riopele.
The jury includes Miguel Flor as president, alongside Joana Jorge (Project Director at ModaLisboa), Adriano Batista (Editor-in-Chief of Fucking Young!), fashion designer Lidija Kolovrat, Federico Poletti (Scientific Leader of Fashion Marketing & Communication at IED Moda Milano), and Mafalda Fialho (Fashion Designer at Burel Factory).
Applications are open until 19 July. The selected projects will be presented at the SANGUE NOVO show during the 67th Lisboa Fashion Week in October 2026. Full regulations are available online.
