ROMBAUT has announced a collaboration with Berlin-based biodesigner Alicia Valdés Selbach. Together, they reinterpreted the brand’s Monolith boot using a new material made entirely from bio-based sources.

The material comes from coffee waste combined with forest leaves and branches. It captures a moment in nature, built around its own properties, texture and limitations. The result is a stripped-back version of the Monolith where the material itself becomes the main story. Raw and experimental, but still wearable.

The project marks a return to the mindset that defined ROMBAUT’s early years. Experimenting. Questioning systems. Building new solutions from the ground up.

Working with Alicia felt natural, she reminds me of myself when I started.” – Mats Rombaut

With this collaboration, ROMBAUT and Valdés Selbach make a case for where fashion might go next. Material innovation. Patience. Imagination.
