Rick Owens Spring/Summer 2027
by Anna Barr
“WE ARE ALL PROCESSING MENACE.
SOME OF US ARM.
SOME OF US TRAIN.
SOME OF US TURN AWAY.
SOME OF US TURN TO STONE.” – Rick Owens
Rick Owens presented his Spring/Summer 2027 collection, Stone Men’s, against the monumental backdrop of the Palais de Tokyo, earlier than expected on the third day of Paris Fashion Week. This season, he looked to performance, power, and protection, unveiling a collection that fused his signature dystopian glamour with a surprising dose of athletic innovation.
We were introduced to a new chapter in his ongoing partnership with Adidas, previewing a high-performance running shoe slated for release in 2027 alongside experimental garments incorporating Adidas’ Climacool technology. Inflated jackets and shorts fitted with internal fans, designed to work in tandem with ice vests, transformed sportswear into something closer to wearable climate-control systems, creating larger-than-life proportions.
Elsewhere, Owens revisited familiar silhouettes in addition to trim jogging suits in technical jersey, supple leather, and recycled nylon girdle fabrics, with removable leather epaulettes. Strong-shouldered tailoring, executed in compact silk crepe by Italian textile specialist Bonotto, reinforced the collection’s themes of authority and discipline. Oversized cabans arrived swollen and architectural in recycled polyester and silk duchesse, their exaggerated volumes balancing structure with softness.
The show’s more provocative moments came through a series of artisanal collaborations. Sheer tank tops resembling 1920s beaded lingerie were painstakingly hand-piped in latex by Paris-based artist Matisse Di Maggio, while dramatic latex capes were created with London latex specialist Florence Druart of Torture Garden Latex. Foam-and-latex tensegrity chaps by longtime collaborator Straytukay referenced Buckminster Fuller’s concept of “tensegrity,” exploring the relationship between compression and tension in both architecture and the human body. Throughout the collection, Owens balanced technical ambition with handcrafted fetishism, continuing his exploration of how fashion can function as both protection and performance in an increasingly unpredictable world.
