Persol and Cassina Bring Italian Craftsmanship Into a Collaboration
by Adriano Batista
Persol and Cassina have come together for a collaboration that reflects a shared vision of Italian design.

The collaboration has produced an exclusive eyewear collection in two limited-edition versions. The first uses the iconic black and Havana colors. The second is a limited collector’s edition of only 500 numbered pieces. It features a frame in an elegant gradient blue, a color rooted in Persol’s heritage. This version also comes with a valet tray designed by Patricia Urquiola, who is the artistic director of Cassina.

The frames are made of acetate, chosen for its subtle nuances and natural veining. The material balances aesthetics and structure, revealing rich yet light nuances that enhance its sculptural character. Each pair of glasses bears the Cassina logo on the inside of the temple, and the same detail appears on the premium leather case and box.

The valet tray is designed to hold the glasses and other small personal items. Its shape was inspired by a stamp, evoking the meeting between the two brands. The tray uses recycled components, including leather fragments from Cassina’s production processes and acetate pieces from Persol, bonded together with a cement base. Each piece is unique.

The inspiration for this model came from Cassina’s historical archive and the study of objects created by masters such as Vico Magistretti. Various details inspired by the brand’s heritage appear in the frame design, including the milled surfaces that run along the bridge and temples. These elements combine rigorous design with refined elegance.
The packaging was inspired by folders preserved in the Cassina archive in Meda, the place that safeguards the brand’s history. This reference turns the object into a small fragment of a contemporary archive, celebrating both Cassina’s design legacy and its enduring tradition.
