Milk of Lime returned to Berlin Fashion Week with their fourth collection, Ashes. The German-Belgian duo behind the label played on the contradictions of the term: destruction and the end meet hope and the idea of the phoenix rising from the ashes.

The label seeks bridges between the rural and the metropolitan, between the unique and the mundane. The making process is the starting point for the designs. Textures sourced from their surroundings find their way into collaged garments and manufactured goods, telling stories that are sometimes harsh, sometimes romantic. That contrast forms the mood of Milk of Lime, an ongoing poem about life and afterlife brought into people’s wardrobes.

True to that approach, the collection brings together romantic and sombre elements, asking the viewer to look more closely. Draped menswear, reimagined knitwear made from torn silk, crinkled textures, and graphic prints on cotton tops dominated the looks, alongside coats, woollen trousers, and sheer silk fabrics. The show took place during Berlin Fashion Week. We were there.
