Earlier in the season, we checked out the Half Time show in Ibiza and had so much fun that when we found ourselves in Mykonos, we knew we had to see what Lío had in store there too. And Spectacularrr certainly lived up to its name.

For a couple of hours, Lío Mykonos feels like a real escape where you can switch off from everything around you and simply get swept up in the atmosphere. The show moves through four distinct worlds: Circus, Wild, Dark and Party; with each bringing its own mood, energy and visual language full of camp and fun.

What makes Lío so much fun is that there isn’t really a boundary between the stage and the audience, not to mention that Magic Mike and Showgirls are two of my most quotable films so I feel like I found my place. Dinner is very much part of the experience. The Mediterranean-inspired menu, overseen by Michelin-starred chef Andreu Genestra, brings local ingredients and contemporary technique to the table, with the pace of the meal designed to complement the performance.

And just when you think the evening is coming to an end, Lío changes character again. The final act gives way to resident DJs, the tables and theatre atmosphere make way for the dancefloor, and the energy carries on late into the night. Lío Mykonos was exactly what a night out should be on holiday: a couple of hours of pure escapism, great food, incredible performances and plenty of fun.

As a kid who grew up with dreams of becoming the next Bob Fosse or running away to join a Paris cabaret, I can only live vicariously through the cast, so I wanted to find out more about who makes up the show!

What’s your favorite number or performance in this year’s show?
My favorite number is Pirates. I love the costumes, the atmosphere, and the energy of the performance. It gives me the freedom to really have fun with my character and express my personality on stage.

And your favorite cocktail?
Recently, I discovered the Carla and it quickly became my new favorite. Before that, I was always a Gin & Tonic kind of guy. I love the combination of the smoky mezcal, the tropical sweetness of passion fruit and that little kick of chili. It has a lot of character and it’s perfect for a summer night in Mykonos.

What song instantly gets you on the dance floor?
I come from ballroom dancing, so all the Latin songs. In the show, for example, I really like “Vivir Mi Vida”.

What inspires you the most?
I grew up watching a lot of films about dance with my mother, so all films with art or dance in them, like Dirty Dancing, Dance with Me and Shall We Dance.

What do you love most about performing in Mykonos?
I love the energy of the island and the atmosphere of performing here. Every night feels different, and there’s something really special about sharing the stage with such an international audience.

Coffee or cocktails?
Coffee, without a doubt. I’m a real coffee person and I usually need one to properly start my day. I love having a coffee slowly, especially when I have some time to myself. Cocktails are for the night, but coffee is part of my everyday life.

Sunrise or sunset?
Sunset, definitely. I love that moment when the whole atmosphere changes and everything becomes a little slower. In Mykonos, watching the sunset feels like the perfect transition into the night.

Sparkles or leather?
Leather. I like clothes with a strong and confident attitude, and I think leather can make even a simple look feel more interesting.

Sweet or savory?
Definitely sweet. I’ve always had a sweet tooth and, if I have to choose, I will always go for dessert.

Early bird or night owl?
Definitely a night owl. My work is all about performing at night, so I naturally feel more energetic and alive when the evening starts. I also love the atmosphere after a show, when everyone is going out and the city is just getting started. I’m definitely not the person who wants to go to bed early!

Magic.

One song that defines your summer:
“Me Gustas Tú” – Manu Chao.

If you weren’t performing, what would you be doing?
I think I would definitely work in the world of fashion. I’ve always been fascinated by clothes, styling and the way fashion can completely change how you feel and how you present yourself.

What’s one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?
People would be surprised to see me angry because I’m usually calm and positive.

For me, it’s a place where I feel free to express myself through my art. It’s a place that constantly challenges me, teaches me something new, and helps me grow both as a performer and as a person. Passionate, generous and disciplined.

What’s your favorite number or performance in this year’s show?
I will have to say the flamenco number, because there’s something really special about watching how people from every part of the world connect with the culture that raised you since you were born. There’s something so spiritual that touches souls in the flamenco culture, and it’s very beautiful for me to connect with people every night through that specific show.

And your favorite cocktail?
My favorite cocktail is the Ariadna because it’s very sweet and tasty.

What song instantly gets you on the dance floor?
For me, the soundtrack of this year’s show is truly amazing, but I will say “Circus” by Britney Spears. I really enjoy dancing to that song; it takes me to a very sassy, fierce and fearless place.

What inspires you the most?
I find inspiration in everything that shows humans developing and facing tough situations. It can be a song, a film, a true story. There’s something about the strength that human people have that encourages me to keep on going. It’s like gasoline that we put into each other. If I had to give a recent example, the last thing I was truly inspired by was the film Harriet, which tells the story of a woman who escaped from slavery and took a lot of risks to save her family.

What do you love most about performing in Mykonos?
I think the thing that I enjoy the most about performing in Mykonos is that the people always have the best vibe to have fun and be entertained. And being such an international destination makes it perfect for me to connect with people from all over the world who came for the same exact reason: to have fun.

Coffee or cocktails?
It depends on the moment, but I think I could never live without coffee. It’s my motor, hahaha.

Sunrise or sunset?
Sunset. I’m a night person, don’t call me at 9:00 am because I will never answer, hahaha.

Sparkles or leather?
Leather. I love making a good outfit that you can look at and say, “That’s giving me BERLIN.”

Sweet or savory?
Sweet. Who cares about diabetes, hahahaha.

Magnetism.

Your dream collaboration:
As a singer, dancer and actor, I think there is no other person who can inspire you more than Beyoncé. The level of greatness that she puts into everything that she does is amazing. I think we will never have someone like her again. I remember being a child and just being amazed by her music videos and her whole career. I would not have become a performer if it wasn’t for her.

One song that defines your summer:
“Ain’t No Sunshine” is the song that I sing to open the Lío show, and the arrangement was made specifically for me. It’s an honour to have a song made for you to open a place like Lío Mykonos every night.

If you weren’t performing, what would you be doing?
Probably teaching. I find it really beautiful that you can fail in your life and in your career, learn from that and make the experience easier for other people. That’s really meaningful to me.

What’s one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?
I think people always freak out when they see you dancing, singing and doing that many things professionally, but it’s not a path of roses. I have to deal with feeling not good enough compared to people who dedicate their life only to one thing. It’s like I have to deal with one impostor syndrome for each discipline of art that I develop. Three impostor syndromes are a lot sometimes, but at the end of the day I’m very blessed and happy to do what I love, and I will deal with anything that comes in my way. If there’s someone who is reading this and feels like an impostor in whatever you’re doing, let me tell you one thing: you are doing amazing, you are not alone in that and you are needed!
