Fashion is an industry full of money, where many talented people rarely make money. We cater to the one percent and the growing oligarchy while clearly not being a part of it. Who is the real fashion insider? The client who can buy their way or the creator who works their way? One thing is for sure, the subject of wealth is still very taboo in the industry. For Fall Winter 2026/27 Matières Fécales by Hannah Rose Dalton and Steven Raj Bhaskaran confront their version of the elite at Paris Fashion Week with their collection entitled “The One Percent”.

I grew up in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Montréal called Cartierville and Hannah grew up in the richest neighborhood, Westmount. She went to a private school, I went to a public one. She was born with a set of privileges due to her skin colour and I was born with a different set due to mine. Although it’s been a challenge at times to find common ground, our clashing upbringings has given us the ability to not just experience one side of the coin, but both and our love for one another is the glue that ties our conflicting worlds together.” – Steven stated in the show notes.

Models paraded out at La Bourse, the former stock market of Paris, with some literally blinded by money. The duo have made a name for themselves with their vision of post-human aesthetics, now they are giving us a taste of what we can only imagine as post-human ethics. With a new war waging, many of us undeniably feeling powerless, and thus the theme of power seemed more than timely. The show unfolded unveiling three tableaux exploring the power of archetypes with classic glamour through a lens of guilt, power, and distortion before shifting to the power of community made up of hoodie capes with elongated kangaroo pockets, worn by friends and family, counter bourgeois excess and speak to the brand’s so-called “cult” following, and finally the power of the future.
