Maison Kitsuné, under the creative direction of Abigail Smiley-Smith, presented its Spring/Summer 2027 coed collection, Urban Glide, in the gardens of Hôtel de Rohan, where Japanese multidisciplinary artist En Iwamura created three monumental sculptures that anchored the scenography. The runway unfolded to the sound of a live choir performing choral reinterpretations of iconic electronic tracks, paying tribute to the brand’s longstanding relationship with music through Kitsuné Musique. The immersive soundtrack set the tone for a collection that proposed a technical yet relaxed wardrobe inspired by the ways Japanese cities, particularly Tokyo, have adapted to increasingly intense summers.

“With Urban Glide, I wanted to explore how clothing can create a sense of protection and freedom at the same time. The collection reflects the ways we adapt to our surroundings, whether navigating the intensity of the city or seeking moments of escape. It’s about creating garments that move with the wearer and respond to the environment around them,” said Creative Director Abigail Smiley-Smith.

Lightweight outerwear, oversized shirts, relaxed tailoring and easy shorts were cut from breathable fabrics that balanced utility with understated sophistication, creating silhouettes designed to transition effortlessly between the city and the coast. Protection emerged as the collection’s defining theme, expressed through airy layering, generous proportions and performance-driven textiles that shielded the body without restricting movement. Maritime references surfaced in mesh textures inspired by lobster fishing nets, sailcloth details and surf-influenced outerwear, while innovative heat-reactive pieces demonstrated Maison Kitsuné’s growing interest in functional design. A palette of washed blues, mineral greys, sandy neutrals and oceanic navy echoed shimmering water and sun-faded landscapes, complemented by gradient washes and bleached finishes that captured the effects of light, heat and movement.
